On December 31, the “Xin Mingzhu 3,” a 500-passenger carbon fiber high-speed passenger ferry for First Ferry of Hong Kong, was officially signed over for delivery in Hong Kong. The vessel was built by Guangdong Zhongwei Composite Materials Co., Ltd., under the Guangdong Provincial Port and Waterway Group, and was contracted by CSSC Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. This ship is currently the largest carbon fiber passenger ship in China in terms of passenger capacity. Visit our products here
Passenger ferries are one of the important modes of transportation for both residents and tourists in Hong Kong. Taking Cheung Chau Island as an example, the over 30,000 residents of the island rely on ferries for transportation to and from the island. During events such as the floating color processions, the daily passenger volume on the Central to Cheung Chau route can reach up to 70,000 people. Visit our products here
CSSC Guangzhou has taken on a batch of 11 shipbuilding projects for the outlying islands of First Ferry in Hong Kong, with the “Xin Mingzhu 3” being the eighth vessel delivered. This ship is a carbon fiber conventional power-propelled high-speed passenger ferry, with a length of 44.75 meters and a width of 11 meters. Constructed using carbon fiber materials, it offers advantages such as lighter weight and corrosion resistance compared to metallic materials. Compared to traditional ships, carbon fiber ships produce lower noise levels during navigation and can further save on fuel consumption and maintenance costs, exhibiting significant energy-saving, emission-reduction, and low-carbon environmental benefits. Based on a proven parent ship design, the “Xin Mingzhu 3” has undergone optimizations and upgrades tailored to the characteristics of Hong Kong’s outlying island routes, effectively enhancing its structural strength to meet the requirements under various operating conditions. It has improved the ship’s seaworthiness and maneuverability, enabling safe navigation in wind conditions up to Beaufort scale 8. The vessel is equipped with lithium-ion battery packs and solar energy storage panels, which ensure the operation of various essential electrical facilities when the ship is docked, effectively reducing daily fuel consumption and emissions.
